COMO Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos
By Ignacio Maza

There are resorts you stay at and resorts that stay with you. For me, COMO Parrot Cay is very much in the latter category. Spread over a thousand acres, this private island retreat has enticed a loyal following since it opened more than 20 years ago. Above all, guests treasure the property’s intimate, tranquil vibe. With only 59 spacious rooms and beachfront villas, guests have plenty of space and privacy. I recently visited COMO Parrot Cay, and want to share my impressions with you.

What’s new?

As a result of recent renovations and enhancements, COMO Parrot Cay is better than ever. Think reimagined guestrooms and villas, new Beach Houses with private pools, an adults-only swimming pool and Beach Club, a “Play by COMO” children’s space, and a new fitness center, among many upgrades.

What hasn’t changed?

The beautiful, mile-long, white-sand beach with crystal clear water that changes color throughout the day; the heartfelt service delivered by a team made up of Turks & Caicos Islanders and Indonesian professionals; and most of all, the serene and peaceful environment the resort is known for.

Guestroom or beachfront haven?

You are spoiled for choice at COMO Parrot Cay, which features a wide range of accommodation options. Choose from Garden and Ocean View guestrooms and suites, with spacious layouts and terraces and just a five-minute walk from the main beach and resort pool.

If you prefer to have direct beach access, the resort offers a range of Beach Houses and Villas in one- to three-bedroom configurations, with up to 3,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space, including sundecks, outdoor showers, and private pools. All resort rooms and villas are bright and light. Décor is white-on-white, with teak furniture, and simplicity throughout. You feel relaxed the minute you walk into your guestroom or beachfront home.

In addition to the COMO Parrot Cay room and villa inventory, the resort offers a collection of private beachfront homes, located just a short golf cart drive away from the main resort facilities. These residences have two to five bedrooms, are individually owned and decorated, and each has its own unique personality. Another plus: all two-bedroom Beach Houses, Villas, and private residences are staffed with a personal butler that makes magic happen, day and night.

Spa, please!

One of the best-loved features of the resort is its COMO Shambhala spa, an enormous wellness complex that has won awards, including “most tranquil Spa” by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. The spa is known for the quality of its therapists, trained in Bali to very high standards.

Choose from Asian-inspired holistic therapies or traditional treatments. After your service, enjoy the outdoor jacuzzi with views of the mangroves and lagoons in the distance—the perfect way to unwind. The resort also offers yoga, Pilates, and meditation classes.

Dining.

Dining is another forte of COMO Parrot Cay. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served poolside, offering a blend of Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Southeast Asian dishes. In addition, enjoy dinner at the Terrace Restaurant, serving h a Mediterranean menu with an Asian twist.

At both restaurants, guests have the option to order dishes from the COMO Shambhala wellness cuisine, featuring healthful organic ingredients. I loved the smoothies in the morning, grilled dishes at lunch, and seafood specialties at dinner. Do not miss the homemade coconut sorbet, my absolute favorite dessert on property.

Adventure Awaits.

COMO Parrot Cay offers a wide range of activities on and off property, including sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, tennis, running trails, bicycling, snorkeling, diving, fishing, and such eco-adventures as exploring the mangroves on a stand-up paddleboard. You can be as active as you want to be, or do nothing at all.

Getting there.

Fly to Providenciales from many North American gateways. After a short drive to COMO Parrot Cay’s private pier, transfer to the resort’s motorboat, for a scenic 30-minute ride to the island. Yes, it takes some effort to get to COMO Parrot Cay. But I promise you, it’s well worth it.
