Rome

The InterContinental brand is back in Italy with its InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace. Set along the iconic Via Veneto in the Ludovisi area of Rome, the new hotel is slated to open in 2022. The existing palazzo building is currently being restored, combing neo-classical details with contemporary design. The anticipated result? Discreet, modern luxury for visitors and locals alike.

Designed in the early 1900s by architect Carlo Busiri Vici in the neo-renaissance style, the palazzo building was originally home to the American Ambassador Library, opening as a hotel in 1993. Guests will benefit from its proximity to the city’s wealth of art and history, thanks to a prime location less than a mile walk from the Galleria Borghese, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain. Both the public areas and exterior will retain the charm of the original historical landmark. The hotel is also easily accessed via Rome’s Ciampino or Fiumicino international airports and is less than 10 minutes from the city’s main rail station.

Many travel to Rome to walk among ruins and visit historical sites. But others go to indulge in decadent Italian cuisine: perfectly cooked al dente pasta, vine-ripe tomato sauce, crispy pizza, freshly pressed olive oil, and, of course, wine. As such, InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace is bringing a couple fan favorites to its central locale:

Scarpetta NYC
The Italian restaurant launched in New York City’s Meatpacking District in 2008. Following its great success in NYC, Scarpetta quickly expanded globally with its newest location within the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace. The Italian expression, “fare la scarpetta” describes the gesture of taking a little boot-shaped piece of bread to soak up the remaining sauce left in the pot of one’s home kitchen. The restaurant’s name is derived from this familiar gesture and represents the indulgent pleasure of savoring a meal down to its very last taste.

Known for bold flavors, Scarpetta’s signature pastas are made in-house daily and paired with locally sourced ingredients. The famous Spaghetti Tomato & Basil is nothing short of a classic in both taste and preparation. Scarpetta’s understated yet elegant approach to Italian cuisine offers a soulful menu paired with a chic and inspiring environment—a perfect match for its new home in the Ambasciatori Palace.

Charlie’s Rooftop
This bar brings the decadence of Fellini’s “Dolce Vita” Rome back to Via Veneto. Its name, Charlie’s Rooftop, refers to the classic descriptor of “a good time Charlie.” Fusing effortless elegance with a bit of eclectic glam, the experience personifies the ‘60s international jet-setter and the American bars frequented, re-imagined for today’s social life. With soulful live music and intimate DJ sets paired with classic cocktails and sophisticated snacks, Charlie’s caters to today’s aspirational Roman and international guest. Savor an aperitivo or late-night cocktail after an indulgent Italian dinner.

Barcelona

The new InterContinental Barcelona is nestled in the heart of the city’s Montjuic district, the perfect base for enjoying city culture. The property features the richness of a European city built on unique Catalan culture, including the use of natural wood interiors and sophisticated design details.

InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts is acclaimed for signature bars and restaurants helmed by Michelin-starred chefs and up-and-coming talent. Its new Barcelona location is no different. Drinking and dining is elevated with three magnificent restaurants: a cocktail bar, the Rooftop 173, and Montjuic Terrace, designed for hosting events. Plus, guests can enjoy the luxurious spa.

Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya
The national museum of Catalan visual art (MNAC)—which sits atop Montjuic Hill in the Palau Nacional of Montjuic—was built for the International Exposition of 1929 and the design was inspired by the Spanish-renaissance and academic classicism. Its edifice dominates the view from Placa Espanya, a popular tourist site. The museum is home to the largest collection of Romanesque art and also exhibits a notable collection of Catalan Romanesque paintings and sculptures (many originally hung in rural Catalonian churches). It also features collections of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance artwork, and modern art dating from the mid-twentieth century to the present.

Font Magica
Barcelona’s biggest fountain—built in 1929 and designed by the engineer Carles Buïgas for the International Exhibition—offers a fantastic display of music, water acrobatics, and lights. One of Barcelona’s most popular attractions, the fountain features moving water jets and illuminated, color-changing lights, all synchronized to music.

UAE

Inspired by the landscape and hospitality of modern Arabia, InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort & Spa features suites and villas that stretch across two peninsulas, plus a private beach with views of the Arabian Sea. Poised to be the next “it” destination, Ras Al Khaimah’s increasing popularity stems from its proximity to key European hubs and iconic architecture. With exquisite landscapes and modern Arabian hospitality, it promises both adventure and relaxation.

Dhaya Fort
The most visited archaeological site in Ras Al Khaimah, Dhaya Fort is a prime example of conservation in the Emirate. Built during the 19th century atop foundations of much older structures, it is the only hilltop fort still standing in the UAE. It also offers fantastic views of lush palm gardens, the sea, and dramatic mountains.

Jais Flight
The World’s Longest Zipline is one of the Ras Al Khaimah’s highest profile attractions. The equivalent to more than 28 soccer fields, it spans the chasm of Jebel Jais and flies a mile above sea level.

Al Wadi Equestrian Center
Ras Al Khaimah’s unique terracotta desert is also one of the most fertile regions in the area due to its higher-than-average rainfall. Enjoy a day in the life of a Bedouin by traveling via horse or camel between various desert camps in the heart of Wadi Khadeja.
