Focused efforts on increasing water production onboard employ sophisticated plants that use seawater as their source, which in turn reduces the need for the bunkering of fresh water. This is particularly important in countries where fresh water is limited and needed for local populations. There are two systems installed on ships—reverse osmosis and evaporators—that treat and recover fresh water.

Regent’s ships are equipped with Advanced Wastewater Purification systems (AWPs). Plus, each ship’s wastewater is tested weekly by in-house environmental officers as well as quarterly by a third party. Regent makes it a priority to ensure ships continue to meet all wastewater standards.

Regent is hyper-focused on continuous energy improvement and has explored new opportunities as its fleet grows. One of the most successful onboard programs is Wasted Heat Recovery (WHR). This process works by recovering heat from the engines and transferring it to freshwater piping, which allows ships to use a free source of energy for improving water production and saving fuel.
