Jungle Lane, the ranger training program at Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, offers visitors a glimpse into what goes into protecting a safari group from a wild animal. Guests walk through a test simulation with rangers, who must score 100-percent to be allowed into the bush on walking tours. The experience lends authentic entrée to the type of training each ranger is subjected to.

Great White Sharks are abundant in the waters around Gansbaai and Durban with plenty of boats and outfitters that offer cage diving trips. The cage is attached to the side of a boat and sits just below the surface of the water. While in the cage, the sharks are lured to the boat by seal decoys and chum. If you aren’t keen on hanging out in the water while sharks swim near the boat, check out a breaching tour. These excursions go out on the water to spot sharks leaping into the air as they hunt for seals.

Located at the border between the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape in the Tsitsikamma area of South Africa’s Garden Route, the Bloukrans Bridge stands at a height of 709 feet. It’s also recognized as the highest (and most thrilling!) bungee jump from a bridge in the world. To get to the launch site, there’s the option to walk up a specially-designed catwalk or take a Flying Fox, also known as a zipline/cable slide. After jumping off the Bloukrans Bridge, jumpers are then pulled back up and led to the edge of the canyon.

Experience zip lining through the rugged Hottentots Holland Mountains in the Cape Nature reserve of the same name. The four-and-a-half-hour tour takes zipliners across 13 elevated platforms and a suspension bridge over a waterfall. Table Mountain is the most iconic landmark of South Africa. While most visitors catch the cable car up the mountain to take in the vista from the top before heading back down, abseiling will give you the opportunity to see the mountain from the vertical cliff face. Plus, you can take in an incredible view of the beautiful city of Cape Town. Abseiling is the same as rappelling. Once strapped into a harness, stand with your back facing the edge of the mountain and begin to lean back. You’ll begin to walk back and down the sheer face of the wall.
